    • David Ketchum's tombstone states he was in the 12th IL Calvary, Company F. However, a close look at the Civil War Soldier of Illinois database reveals David first joined Illinios 32nd, Company F. History of Macoupin County (Leonard Ketchum Biography) stated David was with the IL 32nd, company F and was wounded at the battle of Shiloh. At first this may seem like two David Ketchum's but comparing the information of the physical description, date and place of birth and enlistment location this is the same David. The 12th IL Calvary was not at the battle of Shiloh but the 32nd IL infantry was and after the battle he was reported "deserted". This often meant wounded and in the hospital, for David this was most likely at ┬áJune 6, 1862. Later he returns home and in 1864, joins the 12th IL Calvary.
