Epperson?
[singlepic id=21 w=320 h=240 float=center]
This photo is one of the unlabeled photos given to me by members of the Ash family. Shipler Photography took the photo in Salt Lake City, UT. Shipler’s was in business as early as 1890 in Salt Lake City and continued in business for several decades. There is an advertisement in “The Deseret News” from December 1896 for Shipler’s Photography on Hooper Block, the same location given on the photo.
The only family members I have in my database who lived in the Salt Lake area are the Epperson’s. Sometime between 1900 and 1910 they moved to Ogden, UT. The gentleman in the photo appears to be in his 20’s. This would rule out William Perry Epperson. His son Clyde Ash Epperson was born in 1889 putting Clyde’s age in his twenty’s when the family moved to Utah. Clyde would be the most likely suspect for the subject of the photo.
If you have any information on the Epperson’s or this photo please contact me.
Update: I have been told this picture was taken in concert coat and tails and the instrument is a mandolin.
