Information, documents, and photos on this site will always be free and available for all to use. I have been so privileged to meet in person and correspond with many lost family members over the three years the Familytomb has been online. Thanks to everyone who has shared everything from information to photos!
However, I have had a few instances in the past year where I have found my photos or documents on other sites. I do not mind this but I do wish the folks who repost my information would ask first. The main reason is I would like to hear from you so we can share information; it is so exciting to find lost family members. The second reason is I have many more documents and photos which are not on the site, you may also have those, but I can not share with you if you don’t contact me. The photos and documents on this site have been cropped, edited, and basically messed with to suit my photo taste. If you ask I can send you the original, and you may edit the photos to suit your needs. Finally, as a genealogist I know the time and dedication it takes to locate and document families. The information on the Familytomb represents over fifteen years of work. As a fellow genealogist I will always ask first, and let other researchers know my intent with their photos and documents. I will also site the researchers as owner or creator of the information. I believe this is the polite way to conduct research, but I know I may be in the minority.
As far as copyright violations, taking from this site is not illegal, nor do I wish it to be. I do, however, hope you respect the time and effort it does take to do research, document, and run the website.
